Absolutely brilliant blog. As a student of English literature language has always interested me. Now writing my first ever book, a very true story set in 1844, I am we’ll aware that my writing must fit the era. I have obtained most of my material from 1844 newspapers and am fascinated by how similar the words and grammar are so similar to today. There are some important differences however; my very real villain was “paying his addresses” to a young woman before he killed his wife and children. Modern day term would be courting. Small details are important. Thanks for your blog and sources of information for other writers. Good blog, well written, refrerenced and researched! Bravo!
